Each study area was designed to maximize the educational benefits to children by considering aesthetic value as well as academic correlation. The courtyard classroom provides a diverse and serene backdrop that can be utilized to enhance reading, writing, and art experiences. The plant and wildlife in the garden offer a natural environment that correlates to the topics children will study in their science and social studies classes. Through hands-on exploration, students have the opportunity to discover the Lenape culture, conduct plant experiments, and observe wildlife in their natural habitat.

Dear Parents and Mendham Residents,

I would like to make a personal appeal for your help on a very important and truly exciting project at the Mendham Township Elementary School. The education foundation is working to construct an outdoor learning center in the elementary school library courtyard, converting an unused area to a rich learning center that will strongly benefit the students and help the community in a variety of ways. The concept of this project has been under discussion for the past six years by a number of different groups and we would finally like to get it done.
